Arthur Melo:-'Compared to Messi, Ronaldo is

"more accessible"

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will always exist in relation to each other. It’s impossible to disentangle two of the greatest players to ever play the game due to the fact that they lived the same era and competed directly for so many years.

The people who are best served to make comparisons between the two are players who have played with both of them. Andre Gomes was one, who played with Messi for Barcelona and Ronaldo for Portugal. Arthur Melo is another.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Juventus, Ronaldo’s current club, from Barcelona this past summer in a swap deal that saw Miralem Pjanic go the other way. For him, the pair share similarities as well as differences.

“They’re champions above all else,” Arthur told Diario AS. “In this, Messi and Ronaldo are identical. Concentrated from start to finish, always.

“If they score three goals, they immediately think of the fourth. They never disconnect. It’s impressive and at the same time motivating, because they push you to do your best.

“Compared to Messi, Ronaldo talks more and is more accessible. He never backs down if there is a teammate in need, and he inspires fierce determination.

“He trains like an animal, he doesn’t know what a break is, and he always encourages you to do your best. He also tells me what to eat. He leaves nothing to chance.”

Messi and Ronaldo came face to face just last week, when Juventus beat Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou in the Champions League. Ronaldo scored both Juventus’ goals. The pair are also in the final three for The Best Fifa Men’s Player 2020.
