Varun Chakaravarthy, who couldn't travel with the Indian team to Australia due to an injury, got married to his long-time partner Neha Khedekar in Chennai on Saturday.

Kolkata Knight Riders star spinner Varun Chakaravarthy married his long-time girlfriend Neha Khedekar in a lavish ceremony in Chennai on Saturday.

Chakaravarthy, who missed the flight to Australia for the T20I series after picking up an injury, even played cricket with his new wife on stage in a video posted by his IPL franchise on Instagram.

"Big congratulations to @chakaravarthyvarun and @neha.khedekar from the Knight Riders Family as they begin their journey as husband and wife," KKR wrote on Instagram.

"Chakravarthy and Khedekar were originally scheduled to get married earlier this year, before the Coronavirus pandemic forced them to postpone the ceremonies, were staying in different cities at the time when the nation-wide lockdown was announced.

"While Varun was stuck in Chennai, with his area marked a containment zone around May-June, Neha spent the lockdown in Mumbai," KKR said in a statement.


Chakravarthy was rewarded for his performance in IPL 2020 with a maiden India call-up last month after he bagged 17 wickets for KKR in 13 matches at 20.94. He was the only bowled to bag a five-wicket haul in the IPL this season.

The Tamil Nadu spinner was bought by Kings XI Punjab ahead of IPL 2020 for a whopping price of Rs 8.4 crore but an injury hampered his campaign as he was ruled out after just 1 match. However, Varun kept putting in the hard yards and he was rewarded for it with a Rs 4 crore contract with KKR for IPL 2020.
